Road Hurling Tournament on Sunday 25th February 2001
The idea arose two years ago when we ran a local tournament around the ‘Ring’. The route starts at Knockane Cross, down past Sarsfields Rock and Templebraden Church, on by Sarsfields Creamery, and back to the starting point. Teams of four compete over the c.3 mile course with the top team achieving the least number of pucks.
The skill is to keep the ball low along the ground, avoiding the ditches, thus gaining more yardage. A club steward follows the teams marking the score, and ensures the rules are not broken.Garryspillane won the first tournament with their team of Colm Hickey, David, Donal and TJ Ryan completing the course in 62 pucks.
