20-September-2003

Knockane Vs. South Liberties in Kilteely at 5.15pm

Knockane 2-12, South Liberties 0-2

Knockane captured the east Junior B football title for the first time since 1994 with a comprehensive victory over South Liberties in a replay played in Kilteely last Saturday. Scoreline: Knockane 2-12, South Liberties 0-2. The opening quarter was evenly contested with scores hard to come by. Mike Browne broke the deadlock with 2 pointed frees. Anthony O'Grady and Niall Ryan added further points before Pa Hennessy stuck with a goal just before half time.

Knockane continued the second half in similar style, and when Eamonn Cahill punched home a goal early in the half, they sense victory was in their grasp. Knockane continued to press right until the final whistle and had many fine scores from Jim Franklin, Anthony O'Grady, James O'Connor and Mike Browne.

Captain James O'Connor accepted the cup on behalf of the team amid great scenes of jubilation. Special mention must go to selectors Roger Butler and Michael O'Connell for their committment and belief in the team all year and also to trainer Tommy Flynn for his organisation and input in recent weeks.
