EAST JUNIOR B HURLING CHAMPIONSHIP
21-July-2001
Knockane Vs. Ahane in Cappamore at 7.30pm
Knockane 0-6, Ahane 1-6
We were defeated by Ahane in the Junior B hurling championship last Saturday night in Cappamore on the scoreline: Knockane 0-6, Ahane 1-6. It was a hugely disappointing loss as we had high hopes of progressing further in the competition, but despite our best efforts, it was Ahane who emerged the stronger at the finish. The opening quarter was evenly contested until Ahane struck first with a goal. Knockane battled back with fine points from James O'Connor, Fergal Grace and two from captain Anthony O'Grady to leave the sides level 0-4 to 1-1 at the break.
The second half saw Ahane forge ahead with a number of pointed frees, it was not until the last quarter that Knockane came back into the game. Anthony O'Grady and Diarmuid Grace had late points, but although we had goal chances we couldn't claw back the lead.
There were many good performances on the night, but recent disruption to training and lack of scoring power cost us dearly. Despite the loss, we played with great passion and pride, and we have made huge strides again this year in the hurling code, having beaten many stronger sides in recent challenges. The immense effort of Manager John Franklin and his selectors Paschal O' Connell and Mike O' Grady deserve special mention for the time and dedication they have given to the team this year.

EAST JUNIOR B FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL
09-Sept-2001
Knockane Vs. Murroe\Boher in Kilteely at 12.30pm
Knockane 1-10, Murroe\Boher 2-10
We contested the east Junior B football final on Sunday in Kilteely, and after a thrilling hour of football we were unlucky to go down on the scoreline: Knockane 1-10, Murroe\Boher 2-10.
We began the match in fine form, kicking the opening scores through Anthony O'Grady, free-taker Mike Browne and Denis Fitzgerald. Murroe hauled back the lead, and the sides were tied at half-time 0-5 to 0-5.
After the break, we led entering the final quarter. Murroe hit back with a goal to leave the outcome in the balance. Substitute Liam Butler replied with a goal and Anthony O'Grady hit the equaliser with time running out to send the large Knockane following into raptures.
A late Murroe\Boher goal, following a mistake by the last line of defence, handed them the title. A last gasp attack on goal yielded a point through Lance Carroll, but it proved too little, too late for this fine young team. It was a disappointing result, but the quality of football played was some consolation to the selectors: Pat Cronin, Mike O'Grady and Michael O'Connell. Despite the hard work put in throughout the year, we again failed to make the breakthrough, but we still have the county stages to look forward to in the next few weeks.
