We suffered defeat to Oola in the opening round of the junior b football league last Saturday in Oola. Scoreline: Knockane 0-4, Oola 1-8
Despite fielding an understrength team, the open half was keenly contested. James O'Connor and Anthony O'Grady scored long range points, but an Oola goal before half-time gave them the advantage. In the second half we squandered possession on many occassions, and points from Mike Browne could not peg back the lead.

The Knockane GAA Road Hurling Tournament takes place next Sunday, with registration beginning at 12.30pm. Teams of four are £20 and it promises to be a great day's entertainment. Kilteely goaled to narrow the gap, but a fine effort from Brendan Collins left Knockane leading with time running out. A late pointed free from Kilteely gave them a share of the spoils in an exciting encounter.

Wed Apr 11th 2001 - Challenge
Knockane were defeated by a stronger Staker Wallace side in their first hurling challenge of the year in a game played in Emly. Scoreline: Knockane 0-9, Staker Wallace 2-10 Stakers began brightly, picking off points from frees and defensive mistakes to lead the way. Points from Fergal Grace and Liam Butler kept Knockane in the running, but 2 goals before the interval gave Stakers a commanding interval lead, 2-8 to 0-5
After the break, Knockane improved significantly and had the better of exchanges, but could not put enough scores on the board to effect the final result.

Knockane defeated Camogue Rovers in a hurling challenge played in Meanus. Scoreline: Knockane 2-5, Camogue Rovers 0-1. In a closely fought first half,
Knockane led by a single point from the stick of free-taker Fergal Grace.
Following the break, Knockane added further points, with full forward Brendan Collins grabbing two fine goals.

Sat May 5th 2001 - Hurling League
We defeated Caherline in the first round of the Junior b hurling league last Saturday night on the scoreline: Knockane 0-11, Caherline 2-4. A poor opening quarter saw us trailing by two early goals to the home side. Points from B. Collins, F. Grace and L. Carroll left us trailing by 2-2 to 0-5 at the interval.
Following the break we began to settle down and play more first time hurling, Lance Carroll had a great point from a sideline ball. We took the lead entering the final minutes when Mike Browne struck over the winning point. Despite many missed chances on the night, the team showed great spirit in gaining the lead at the end.Best for Knockane were Peter Commons, Jim Franklin, James O'Connor, Mike Browne, Niall Ryan and Lance Carroll. We are meeting Ballybricken on this Friday night in Caherelly in the next round of the league.

We lost to Ballybricken in the Junior b hurling league last Friday night in Caherelly on the scoreline: Knockane 2-3, Ballybricken 3-10. A closely fought first-half saw us trailing by three points, despite numerous missed chances.
After the break Liam Butler goaled to narrow the gap, but early pressure failed to count as Ballybricken forged ahead to win comfortably in the finish. It was a disappointing display all round, but we have further games to improve, starting with Ahane next Friday night in Newgarden.

In the Junior A football league, Kilteely proved too strong winning on the scoreline: Knockane 0-7, Kilteely\Dromkeen 0-14 in a game played in Knockane. We led by a point in the opening, but a string of scores by Kilteely from placed balls left them ahead 0-9 to 0-2 at the interval.
The second half was keenly contested, and there were a number of fine points from Anthony O'Grady, Michael Collins and Lance Carroll. We meet Ahane in the next round of this competition also in Newgarden on next Sunday evening.

We lost to Ahane in the Junior b hurling league last Friday night in Newgarden on the scoreline: Knockane 0-11, Ahane 6-6. We trailed from the start, conceding two early goals in the opening minutes. From there we settled to get points from Peter Commons, Mike Browne and free-taker Fergal Grace. Ahane rallied late on in the half, to lead comfortably 4-4 to 0-5.
After the break we hurled much better, and despite many missed chances including a penalty we tacked on six further points. We conceded further goals as the defense tired late on and ran out losers on the night.

In the Junior A football league, Ahane again proved too strong winning on the scoreline: Knockane 2-0, Ahane 1-10 in a game played in Newgarden. We struggled in the opening half, due to injuries and absentees and trailed by ten poins at the interval.
In the second half we had the majority of possession, but simply could not tack on the scores, Niall Ryan had two great goals, but our failure from the placed ball cost us dearly in the end.

We defeated Murroe\Boher in the Junior B hurling league on Friday night in Knockane on the scoreline: Knockane 5-6, Murroe\Boher 1-9. We led at the interval by 2-4 to 1-2.
The second half we hit three more goals and tacked on a couple of points to finish winners on the night. We wish John Franklin a speedy recovery from an injury he sustained during the match.

We played Pallasgreen in the Junior B hurling league on Friday night in Knockane and were defeated on the scoreline: Knockane 3-3, Pallasgreen 4-8. We trailed early in the match and despite a goal from Liam Butler we went in at half time: 2-6 to 1-1 down. In the second half Pallasgreen dominated and two late goals from Fergal Grace could not pull back the lead.

We played South Liberties in the last round of the Junior B hurling league in Knockane and were defeated on the scoreline: Knockane 0-4, South Liberties 2-11. A succession of soft frees given away in the back line cost us dearly in the opening half. We improved matters in the sedond half, but it was a case of too little, too late. We have now completed all our league hurling fixtures for 2001.

Sun July 15th 2001 - Challenge
We defeated Camogue Rovers in a hurling challenge match played in Meanus on Sunday morning. Scoreline: Knockane 2-7, Camogue Rovers 0-10. The opening half was evenly contested and we led by a single point 0-6 to 0-5. Liam Butler had four pointson the trot from the full forward position, with Anthony O'Grady and Niall Ryan adding further points.
Camogue came back into the game after the break, but goals by O'Grady and Peter Commons from a 65 gave us victory on the day.

We played Monaleen in a challenge on Friday night in Knockane and lost out on the scoreline: Knockane 1-12, Monaleen 4-9. Mike Browne suffered a nasty facial injury and we wish him a speedy recovery.

We defeated Galbally in a game played in Knockane on the scoreline; Knockane 0-12, Galbally 1-8. An even first half, saw us gaun the edge late in the second half, and despite a disallowed from James O'Connor we finished winners in an entertaining game. James McMahon did a fine job as referee on the night.
