Knockane won the first round of the Junior B football league last Sunday when defeating Fedamore on the scoreline ; Knockane 2-3, Fedamore 0-6.
Played in windy conditions, the home side settled well and points from Anthony O’ Grady and Niall Ryan, and a well taken goal from Mike Brown gave them a five point lead at half-time. Fedamore fought back to within a score, but some resolute defensive work and a goal from a penalty ensured a bright start to the year for Knockane GAA.

Knockane had a well deserved three point win over neighbours Kilteely/Dromkeen in the Junior B football league last Sunday on the scoreline ; Knockane 2-4, Kilteely/Dromkeen 1-4.
The opening half was action packed with both sides being awarded penalties. Kilteely opened the scoring with a goal from the penalty spot. Knockane replied with two penalties from Anthony O’Grady and the same player added two further points to leave the home side leading by three points at the interval.
The second-half was evenly contested with both sides having chances to gain the lead, however a combination of poor wides and good defensive work meant that the result was in doubt until the final whistle.

Knockane GAA Club held a very successful Race Night in the Idler Bar, Knockane on last Friday night. The event drew a large turnout and was well supported locally. The club would again like to thank the generous support received and the hard work of the committee which made the event possible.
On Saturday night, we were defeated by Ballybricken in the Junior B football league on the scoreline: Knockane 1-6, Ballybricken 4-7. Ballybricken’s ability to take their goal scoring opportunities was the main difference between the sides. In the opening half the sides were evenly matched, until a two goal burst gave Ballybricken the advantage just before the interval.
They continued this pattern in the second half to emerge victors on the night. However, it was Knockane who finished the game the stronger, with some well taken points, and a Liam Butler goal giving the final scoreline a better appearance.

On Sunday night, we were defeated by Caherconlish in the Junior B football league on the scoreline: Knockane 1-3, Caherconlish 1-4.
The match was played in wet, windy conditions in Caherconlish, with the home side having the better of affairs in the opening half, leading by three points at the interval. In the second half, Knockane battled back to level the match with time running out, but on the stroke of full time Caherconlish pointed a free to emerge winners by a solitary score on the night.

On Saturday night, we drew with Pallasgreen in the Junior B football league on the scoreline: Knockane 0-8, Pallasgreen 1-5.
Pallasgreen had the better of affairs in the opening half, scoring an early goal. Knockane responded with well taken points from James O’Connor and Andrew Moloney, but it was the visitors who led at the interval by three points.
In the second half, Knockane came back into the game, showing great determination despite finishing with fourteen men. Denis Fitzgerald kept them in touch from placed balls and it was left to Ray Sampson to fire home the equaliser on the stroke of full time.

On Saturday night, we were defeated by Oola in the final game in the Junior B football league on the scoreline: Knockane 2-3, Oola 3-2. In a low scoring game, chiefly caused by the poor weather conditions, it was Oola who settled the quicker and by the interval they led by eleven points.
In the second half, Knockane came right back into the game, with a much improved performance from defence and midfield. Ray Sampson and Andrew Moloney goaled, and N. Ryan and J. Quinn had points to bring the game within reach. In an exciting finale, Knockane had chances to win the match, including a missed penalty which proved costly at the final whistle.

On Saturday night, we were defeated by Cappamore in the Junior A football league on the scoreline: Knockane 0-8, Cappamore 2-5. Knockane made all the early running scoring three points without reply in the opening quarter. Cappamore responded to level the scores at the interval.
In the second half, Knockane led entering the final stages, thanks to points from A. O’Grady and Denis Fitzgerald, and some great team work. Cappamore grasped victory with two opportunist goals to lead for the first time in the match and emerged victors on the night. It was a great display from Knockane in their first match in the Junior A league.

Preparations are underway for the Knockane GAA Road Hurling Tournament which will take place on Sunday 23rd of May. Teams will consist of 4 players and inter county stars will feature on the day. Last weekend, despite two defeats there was much encouragement in the performances of the club. On Friday night, we were defeated by Ahane in the first round of the Junior B hurling league on the scoreline: Knockane 0-10, Ahane 2-7.
The opening half saw Knockane play some fine first time hurling, and at the break they led by 0-6 to 0-4. In the second half, Ahane came back into the game, and their ability to score the vital goals gave them the upper hand. Despite this, Knockane had chances at the end to level the game, but the home side just held out to secure the points.

The following night, we took on South Liberties in the Junior A football league with the final scoreline: Knockane 0-9, South Liberties 1-10.
We started the game very slowly, and were six points adrift after the opening quarter. However, points from D. Fitzgerald, R. Sampson and N. Ryan had us back in touch by the break.
After the interval, the game was evenly contested and in the end only some good defensive work from South Liberties prevented Knockane from earning the victory.

The Knockane GAA Road Hurling Tournament will take place on next Sunday 23rd of May. Teams will consist of 4 players and it is expected that inter county stars will feature on the day. The event will be run over a three mile course and there is prize money for the winning team.
It is hoped that strong local support will be present, as well as many teams from neighbouring parishes. The action begins in Knockane at 2.00pm and the competition will run throughout the day, finishing with a bar-b-que and music. A great days entertainment is guaranteed. On Friday night we defeated Doon in the Junior B hurling league on the scoreline: Knockane 2-5, Doon 1-3. In a low scoring game, we led all the way following an early goal from R. Butler. The second half saw a great display from the Knockane defense to hold out against the wind, and a goal from M. Brown ensured another historic victory in this code.

On Saturday night, we gained our first points of the Junior A football league defeating Kilteely on the final scoreline: Knockane 1-11, Kilteely/Dromkeen 2-5.
We trailed at half time by 1-5 to 0-4 after a poor opening half. After the interval it was all Knockane and some great point scoring from A. O’ Grady, N. Ryan, L. Butler and a D. Fitzgerald goal saw us hold onto the lead despite conceding a late goal.

The Knockane GAA Road Hurling Tournament was a great success with a large crowd gathering for the days events. Despite the presence of strong local teams including former hurling greats Pat Cronin, Mike O’ Grady and Dan Quinn, it was the teams from Garryspillane GAA, Kilteely/Dromkeen GAA and Ballybricken GAA who came first, second and third respectively.
The winning team of T.J., Donal & David Ryan and Colm Hickey covered the three mile course in 62 shots to claim first prize. It is hoped that following the success of this tournament it will become an even more popular event in the future. The club would like to thanks all the members who acted as stewards on the day, the players that took part and anybody who helped out in any way.

On Friday night we were beaten by Caherline in the Junior B hurling league on the scoreline: Knockane 1-6, Caherline 3-7.
The visitors had the better of exchanges in the opening half and led by 2-4 to 0-4 at the break. In the second half, we kept in touch with scores from M. Brown, J. O’ Connor and D. O’ Sullivan. Despite a succession of good chances near the end, we could not breach the Caherline defence.

On Monday evening we met Doon in the play-off for the Junior B hurling league semi-final. Despite having beaten the same opposition earlier in the competition, it was Doon who emerged victorious on the night. Scoreline: Knockane 1-7, Doon 3-7.
The first half saw Doon exert their dominance and they lead at the break by four points. After the interval, points from Liam Butler and a P.J. Cronin goal gave us a glimmer of hope. In the end, Doon’s ability to take their scoring chances proved to be the difference between the sides.

On Saturday night we were narrowly defeated by Murroe\Boher in the final round of the Junior A football league on the scoreline: Knockane 0-8, Murroe\Boher 1-8.
The first half was evenly contested with points from D. Fitzgerald, P.J. Cronin and M. Browne keeping us in touch at the break. After the interval, Knockane dominated the half with some fine points from J. O’ Connor and R. Sampson. Nearing the end, Anthony O’ Grady had a great point from a free on his own 65 yard line which bounced over the bar. This score put us into the lead entering the final minutes, but a late rally by Murroe/Boher which saw them score a goal and a point gave them victory on the night.
