Every now and again somebody comes up with a novel way of raising funds for charities and GAA clubs. The Club held a very successful "Who Wants to be a Thousandaire?" night in the Golden Thatch, Emly on Fri. Sept. 25th 2001.
Contestants paid £10 each to enter the contest and if selected could win a top prize of £1,000 by answering fourteen questions. They had three lifelines similar to "Who Wants to be a Millionaire"; ask the audience, fifty-fifty or phone a friend, who were screened in a separate room, but contacted by close circuit television. Finance for the game was raised by advertisers on the close circuit television which showed the ads. several times during the night. It proved to be a great nights entertainment and a novel event.
Guest star; hurler Ollie Moran, Ahane and Limerick was first up to answer questions, winning £250 for charity. Others who answered questions for varying amounts were; Anthony O'Grady, Fergal Grace, Roger Butler, Paschal O'Connell, Pat Cronin, Willie O'Donnell and Liam O'Dea. A number of photographs from the night can be viewed below.
